Requirements
Minecraft Java Edition 1.8.9
With Forge 1.8.9 (11.15.1.2318) on Java 8. The launcher's bundled Java works.
OpenGL 2.1 (GLSL 1.20)
Needed by the shader-based features. Almost every GPU from the last 15 years supports it. Without it, those features fall back or show a notice.
Windows, macOS or Linux
Wherever Forge 1.8.9 runs. A few modules have their own requirements, listed below.
OptiFine is optional
Works with and without OptiFine, including Fast Render. With OptiFine shader packs, some features pause or fall back, with a notice. Motion Blur pauses, since shader packs have their own.
Module requirements
- Audio module (now playing, visualizer)
- Full features on Windows 10 (version 1809 or newer). On Linux: song info and controls, with an animated visualizer. Not available on macOS.
- React to music (Dynamic Skies)
- Needs the Audio module's real audio levels.
- GPU usage (CPU & GPU module)
- Windows 10 or newer, or an NVIDIA GPU elsewhere. Otherwise it shows N/A.
- Discord module

All optional. The mod connects to:
Weather module
Real weather from Open-Meteo.
Discord module

Troubleshooting
OptiFine and shader packs
OptiFine is optional, and Furiah’s Visuals works with and without it, including with Fast Render on.
With an OptiFine shader pack loaded, some features pause or fall back, and the mod shows a notice when that happens. Motion Blur pauses, because shader packs bring their own. To get every effect back, turn the shader pack off.
The menu doesn’t open
Make sure you started the Forge 1.8.9 profile, not vanilla, and that the jar is in the mods folder itself, not in a subfolder. Then press Right Shift while you’re in a world. If another mod also uses Right Shift, change one of the two keybinds.
Some effects show a notice instead
Shader-based features need OpenGL 2.1 (GLSL 1.20), which almost every GPU from the last 15 years supports. If yours doesn’t, those features fall back or show a notice. Updating your graphics driver often helps.
Where the logs are
Minecraft writes its logs to the logs folder inside .minecraft:
- Windows:
%appdata%\.minecraft\logs - macOS:
~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/logs - Linux:
~/.minecraft/logs
The files you need are latest.log and, if it’s there, fml-client-latest.log.
Reporting a bug
Tell us on Discord what you expected, what happened instead, and how to make it happen again. Attach latest.log from right after the problem, and mention your mod version, whether you use OptiFine or a shader pack, and your operating system.
